Don't Eat That!!!

With Spring right around the corner we have events like Mardi Gras, Easter, Spring cleaning, etc. This is a good time to accidentally leave small items lying around. Small bead necklaces, plastic eggs, children's toys are all items that seem fun for a pet to play with but HAVE CAUTION! Occasionally we get a visit from a patient who has been lethargic for a few days, weak, unable to eat or drink, vomiting, and unable to have a bowel movement. Although these my seem like very vague symptoms, combine these with a patient who has a history of getting into the garbage or chewing items left around the house and you have a possible Bowel Obstruction. In simpler terms, the patient has eaten something that has gotten stuck in either the stomach or intestines. If the object does not pass naturally, it must be removed. And exploratory surgery for removal can be quite pricey. Even more scary is if the patient isn't diagnosed in time and the item isn't removed it can be fatal. We know how much you care about your loved one and would just like to warn you of the possible dangers of obstruction. Please take the time this season to pick up any potentially edible item.
